Friday night was the McGowen Retro Disco Dance. We picked Jack up from Watters, ate at Chick-Fil-A with Mychel & Broc, then headed back to McGowen to get dressed, and boogie. The school/gym was decorated fantastic, the DJ was great (but loud), there were DVD videos of the dance and pictures by WillowTree (aka: Robin) that could be ordered, snacks, and lots of fun!

McGowen Retro Disco Dance 2009
One Week...
One week this has been! Jack has continued to make bad choices resulting in the Other box to be checked on his daily report from Watters. His main offense is running...particularly after stealing toys from the other students and responding to correction with a smile and "No". I am happy to report that Friday they said he was doing better. Not sure if they were just trying to help us enjoy the weekend, if it was because we brought them breakfast on Thursday as an "I'm Sorry our child is that child", or if he truly has started to come around. Hoping it is the last of course!
Wednesday morning as walking into school for my tutor group (a whole other issue with me) Dr.Gottesman, my Gastro, called. He has a message system that you call one week after tests where his results are recorded for you which is followed up with a typed letter...so I knew him personally calling so soon after the test and with him opening up with, "I've spoken to a Cardiac Thoracic Surgeon regarding your CT Results wasn't a good thing. And I was right. Honestly a bunch of it was blur because I was running late, had kids coming in my room , and well...his call set me in a panic...but I can give you the gist. More will be known on the 24th (or earlier because now I don't care about missing school...I just want answers so I am going to try to move it up to an earlier date) and until then am trying to stay off the Internet and not stress about it too much.
For those that don't know I was born with a Vascular Ring with a Right Aortic Arch where my right artery was wrapped around my esophagus. This was discovered after episodes of choking/turning blue after eating and a few trips to the doctor. The condition was treated with surgery at Children's in Houston. Until now I haven't had any complications, was checked out in 3rd grade, and thought I was thoroughly checked out when pregnant with Jack per my OB's request to ensure my heart could handle childbirth. Turns out that my left artery is wrapped around my esophagus. Not sure how long, how, or anything else other than the fact that Dr.Gottesman has already met with him regarding my case, he is very well known in Dallas so I was told I would be in good hands, and was urged to call Wednesday to set up the first available consultation. Apparently swelling is possible which would lead to rupture and as he put it...the results would be fatal. So...not sure if it will be a monitor from here on out or go in for surgery and have it repaired. Only time will tell. Sure wish I had gotten life insurance before finding this out and now you know me...obsessing about wills, not being able to have future kids, and where to be buried...would you expect anything else from me?
That afternoon we picked Jack up and took him directly to the After Care Pediatric place because of the mild fever, acting out, and not sleeping. There was fluid in both ears and the right (as usual) was opaque which means on the way to infection. We have him on antibiotics again to beat it before Tuesday because if there is a fever then his surgery has to be cancelled. He has a pretty mean sounding cough too, but must be weather/allergy related because his lungs checked out clear. Here is hoping Tuesday brings him better health, more clear spoken words, and less co-pays.
Here are a few pics from this week:
Although, this was not the case the entire night. At one point Nick and I were both hanging off while Jack made the cross bar to our family "H". The next day was ROUGH!

Finishing Up January
The week ended finally after our snow day at home. Friday we picked Jack up to find out that he was stealing toys, running off with them, and smiling when being talked to by his teachers. They were shocked because he is normally (besides that one time on the table) on his best behavior at Watters...here's hoping it isn't a pattern, but happy that it wasn't a report that he bit another kid like he was bit last week. I'm sure our day is coming though!
The boys dropped me off at Presby Dallas for an Upper CT test ordered by the gastro in response to the barium tablet getting logged in my esophagus and seeing my aorta putting pressure on it from the Upper GI. Nothing like a happy hour long neck of barium (vanilla flavored this time-I was on the frequent flyer side of the office with leather sofas, warm blankets, and nice lighting-moving on up in the world). At least there was a fellow Tiger fan waiting with me to pass the time before my IV and test. After a tease vial of saline (for those confused...don't ask....for those that know..you understand how bad I wanted more especially with those warm blankets wrapped around me), the 2nd half of my long neck, some iodine injected into my veins (SUPER WEIRD FEELING), and some radiation in a donut, and it was over. Had to hang around awhile while the boys continued to shop at Northpark to make sure my itching wasn't an allergic reaction to the iodine...now it is wait til Friday the 13th for my results at my follow up appointment...hope the date isn't a sign of what is to come from the tests.
I'm feeling a bit under the weather, dreading the week ahead, and wishing Spring Break was here NOW!
