Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby

"I don't want to sleep in my crib alone!"

So yesterday every chance I got I read pages from the Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby Book...for those of you that know me from the good old days -you must be pretty shocked by how many books I have read since finding out I was pregnant...me too! This book is guidelines for helping to teach your child to soothe them self and fall asleep without any props....aka The Crying It Out Method. This was a method that I swore I would never use...but Nick and I are to the point where if we don't do it for Jack, we need to do it for our sanity.
Last night was the first night and we put him down at 7:12 PM and he cried hysterically until 7:50 PM. I honestly think he would have been good to go the whole night but the monitor went off twice because he was so close to the crib rails that it couldn't detect him (we're going to change the sensitivity tonight). We had to go in and check on him (walking quickly this time for safety purposes) but it sucked because it would wake him and he'd have to cry it out again (not nearly as long as the initial cry though). This morning his crib sheet was covered in piles of dried tears and spit up which never happens :( We have continued the method today for naps in his crib (which he has never done, it's always the swing) and I just think it will take time....and a lot of eating and drinking to drown my sorrows while I listen to him cry.

If this method doesn't work we could always order these Zanky Infant Pillows to make him think we are holding him while he naps. They could easily be packed for when we travel too. Scary huh?!?!
Check out their website http://www.pregnancystore.com/zaky.htm It is for real!

In the past 2 days Jack must have discovered his bottom lip. He sucks on it non stop making the cutest little face but it is making his little chin raw.
Take a look at that hair today because on tomorrow's post he'll be stylin' and profilin' with his haircut.

GG and Great Grandpa

GG and Great Grandpa came in for the weekend to see Jack (and us I guess) from Arkansas. We had a great 3 days!

GG made Jack these adorable ABC blocks that are painted to match his room, with decoupaged pictures of him on the inside of the tops, and they are full of the pop-up books that she has started to collect for him from antique shops/auctions. They look great in his room!

GG fed Jack (during one of his boycotts Grandpa joined in to help too). Jack is still not in love with cereal...can't wait for the real stuff hopefully by the end of the month.

What would a weekend with visitors be without lunch in McKinney at The Pantry. Afterwards GG strolled Jack in some of the Antique Malls in the Square. It was really warm out...can't wait til the Fall/Spring to go walking around...they'll have to come back then :)

Jack played and played with GG and Grandpa...whether it was toys or the yard art scarecrow that they brought Jack. They were non stop....

Til nap time with GG...

And Grandpa!!

We miss them already!!

Daddy Adventures...

Jack and Nick woke up this morning excited about their day of Daddy Ventures, Hanging with GG and Grandpa, and LSU FOOTBALL.

Leaving me behind they headed to a local Whole Foods to meet up with other Dads and Babies to explore the grocery store together led by Lynda the brain development specialist that i saw speak earlier this Summer and the manager of Whole Foods.
Here is a picture of the group taken by the butcher (that's right...the butcher). Nick said that Jack did great touching all the fruit and sniffing the coffee beans...only problem was he wanted to put EVERYTHING in his mouth. By the time they pulled out the parking lot...Jack was passed out from his grocery store adventure. Nick said that they are planning to use this picture in the store and on the Whole Foods Newsletter that goes out to other branches....Exciting!!
I enjoyed my hour and a half at home by taking a long hot shower that didn't involve me having to get out wet to tend to Jack and I even DRIED MY HAIR!!!
Watching the Tigers play right now. Tomorrow I'll post all about GG and Grandpa's visit....after Nick and I get back from our extended lunch Jack free because the Great Grandparents are babysitting for us :)

NOW

September 2, 2007

My shoulder and knee are slowly getting better but with all good must come some bad- right?!?! Nick brought home a cold from school so I am runny nosed and sneezing (Jack's rudolph nose and crust makes me think he caught it to). The Terminex man confirmed that it is ants that have taken over our bathroom (Thanks goodness it isn't Termites) but couldn't confirm that they are from Argentina, or that they require $100 sprays...guess we will just see what happens and most likely are switching from Have Pesticide Will Travel to another exterminator. Tomorrow GG and Grandpa are coming in for the weekend from Arkansas so I am sure that none of us will go short of being taken care of.
