TROUBLE Shooting

Don't Panic...We aren't shooting little man Trouble, but today has been all about Trouble shooting to prevent Trouble from getting into Trouble

How could we ever harm this precious face...mind you this picture was taken right after he got into a little bit of trouble.

The day started with sleeping in and hanging out. We had to exchange some shoes at Gymboree in the Galleria and The Container Store just happened to be right across the street... I am always thinking of ways to "better our house" with organizational tools so below is my most recent addition...

I had been so frustrated with all the baby food containers being single layer wasting space above them and lacking a filing system because of room constraints. Problem solved.

Same thing with the counter covered in sippy cups due to the absence of a place to store them. You know you are getting "old" when you move your bar to above the fridge (out of everyone's reach) and replace it with a shelf divider to accommodate for all the plastic dining ware for your child.

OK- The box of baby proof materials came in but with Nick working late we hadn't gotten around to installing it yet (I've just been on tight watch). Well tonight we put Trouble down and hear him playing around like usual (so far this week he has already caused us to relocate his monitor and the basket full of blankets that he proceeded to pull into his crib one by one. Jack started screaming bloody murder so Nick went in. Wub Nub was across the room and as Nick described- Jack was standing "at the bars of his cell waiting for his parol officer to get him". Upon looking harder Nick noticed another thing that was within Jack's reach...

This is behind his crib. Notice the monitor plug on the ground and the open socket where it used to be plugged in. Jack had reached through and unplugged the monitor....we didn't know until we went in because it has a back up battery in it. Before this was never a problem because the mattress was higher...but now we have it almost to the floor so he won't escape and didn't think he'd ever go unplugging appliances. So the Trouble Shooting began...

Here are the plug safety plates that I (yes, you read that right...ME) installed. The cover slides over to plug in and when unplugged it slides back over on its own. This is to prevent taking out the plug insert and leaving it out which could result in shocking or choking. They aren't in every socket because they are pricey...but are on the outlets that we use for the vacuum and other occasions. The rest have the regular plugs in them.

Here is Nick installing the magnet key cabinet locks in the kitchen. It was quite a pain so we are going to do them gradually because he'd be up all night if he did the 8 kitchen cabinets and the 6 bathroom cabinets at once...plus I'd stick a screw driver in the electric socket if I had to be in the house while he installed another one tonight.

Here is a picture of how it works...The key is that thing in Nick's hand. You hold it to the cabinet (there is nothing visible on the outside), a click sounds, and the door can be opened. Once the door closes it is locked again and you need the key to unlock it. This is better than the traditional cabinet locks because the cabinet doesn't budge when trying to open it preventing fingers from getting smashed. Hope we don't loose the keys though!!!
