Not Wordless Wednesday-Worried Wednesday

So I couldn't just do a Wordless Wednesday after today. It was more like Worried Wednesday for the Relle Clan.

Here is Jack this morning before we left for Watters/Work. Isn't he too cute in his Gap Sweatshirt?!?!

Last night during Jack's bath we noticed a few little "bug bites" on him, rubbed some Aquaphor on it (you know like Windex to Greeks), and didn't think much about it when dropping him off at daycare (well other than not mentioning it to see if they noticed and notified us-which they did by 9 in the morning-observant and concerned-happy with that). We assumed it was just from playing outside...that is what you get for assuming huh?!?

By 2:15 they called to let us know he was not really himself and that the rash had spread. Nick told them that we'd be there asap after work. We decided that since I was about to have my planning I would run to get him and bring him back to my grade level meeting so we could leave for our already scheduled appointment at 4:45 for the flu shot. Well 5 minutes later they called and said that his leg was swelling and it was sensitive to the touch. Nick notified me of this in the parking lot. He was on the way while I packed up my kids and called to find out from Dr. Mathieus what to do...they said come straight in, but if he was having troubles breathing to go directly to the hospital. Nick called and Jack was breathing alright so he headed back to McGowen, I sent my kids with their backpacks, and signed out running to the parking lot to get in the car with the boys.

When I got in the car this is the sad face that I saw. You could tell the rash had spread all over, Jack was hot to touch, his knee was huge, and check out the size and color of his ear. My mind was racing...MMR, Staph, leg amputation...we couldn't get to Dr. Mathieu's office fast enough. The diagnosis was an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillian that he has been taking for 10 days to treat the ear infection from last week. Apparently reactions can just show up like this after no previous problems. We are monitoring for fever, throat swelling, or any other signs of major distress and he is getting tons of Benadryl. Needless to say no more penicillin for a long time and he didn't get the flu shot either.
Here is another view an hour after taking Benadryl....the ear and knee were still swollen. Poor baby was having troubles walking because of the swollen knee (the tightness of the skin is what is causing the discomfort) and he would get stuck in positions crying because of it.
This picture doesn't do it justice....he looked like those horrible pictures that pop up when you are self diagnosing yourself on Google.
Imagine this everywhere...even on your eye lids....for someone that doesn't understand...how horrible!

So we thought he was getting better because the lobe of his ear got some flesh color back in it, but right before bed he was starting to swell on the right ear and leg....so assuming it was swelling because of it being close to his next Benadryll dose we still made the executive decision to keep him home tomorrow. He is funky looking, uncomfortable, and we worry that with so many kids they might not be able to monitor for distress as well as one of us could at home with him.

Since Nick was out last Monday with Jack and ran out leaving his teaching partner with 60 plus First Graders this afternoon- we decided it was my turn. Boy.....forgot the beating a sub brings with it. Took a million calls to find a preferred sub, over an hour to make plans, and Nick has a huge to do list to get all the prepared stuff set up tomorrow. So...I'll be at home with my little man tomorrow and hopefully by tomorrow the swelling will be down and he'll be back to himself again.
