By the time Nick and Blake got to the house Jack's temperature had gone back up to 103 and he was not himself at all.

He was shivering, let us wrap him in a blanket (which is unheard of for Jack), and had to be touching us. We tried to make an appointment with his
pedi for the next day in case the night didn't go well but he was closed. Not long after Jack was just laying there, limp, and staring off into space so we packed up and headed to the Pediatric After Hours Clinic.

Pretty sure this is not what Blake had in mind when he came to visit....but neither did any of us. The pediatrician said his right ear looked like it could develop into an infection, gave us antibiotics, but his white blood count came back normal so no other tests were required-it was ruled to be either a temp from the potential ear infection or a virus.

This is how our little man looked when we left and it was just so sad to see him so hot and just
lethargic. By the time we got his
meds and got home his temperature with the Motrin/
Tylonel every 3 hours was up to 105.1 so we called the Clinic back. They said to retest in 30 minutes which we did and it still hadn't gone done so they sent us to the ER.

Instead of going to the hospital by us we went to the Children's Hospital closer to Dallas because they specialize in little kids and it saved us an ambulance trip which probably would have been ordered had we gone to a traditional ER.

Here is Nick and Jack waiting for the doctor. He HATED getting his temperature checked (we won't go into details but Nurse Mom is much more gentle). They gave him some
Children't Tylonel while we waited for the doctor but he wasn't too interested in anymore
meds at that point. It didn't take them too long...about 30 minutes which for an ER is pretty good I think.

Since the blood had just been tested they did a strep test to rule it out and decided we would go from there for further testing. They also gave him a super power fever reducer and wanted to get his temp down before attempting to get him to drink which would determine if fluids were needed. He would fall in and out of sleep but would jerk around and wake up screaming every few minutes. Poor baby!

One would think that giving blood or a strep test would send a child into hysterics....it did but not anything like the band aid at the clinic, the
hospital bracelet, or the pulse machine. He would see it and freak out trying to get them off. Guess when you are feeling bad and in a weird place you don't want anything strange touching you.

Finally around 12:30 we were discharged and headed home. Per their instructions we put him in next to nothing to sleep, doubled his
dosage of both Motrin and
Tylonel, and administered it every 3 hours. Here he is at 4 this morning when he was ready to start his day...but we were not at all. He took his
meds, drank some
Pedilyte, and we all went back to sleep til 9 (except for Blake who went on a long walk while we snoozed).
So far this morning his fever was down to 96.5 so here's hoping the worst is over. Staying around the house today obviously and tonight Nick and Blake are heading to a Rough Riders game in Frisco. Hopefully Blake's trip won't be a total loss.
