"Lasts" and "Firsts"

A Mommy friend of mine wrote the other day on her blog something that rang so true it burned my ears. Thought I would share them here because she was able to verbalize what I was feeling so perfectly...Thanks Cindy for allowing me to follow you and Sean on this adventure as others are able to follow Jack and I.

The bottles are really the last "baby" things in our house. The clothes are no longer baby clothes. Most of the onsies are gone. The toys are no longer babyish. They don't squeak or rattle. The toys now sing the alphabet and scream "Let's play ball!". The bouncers and jumperoos long since put away. And now the bottles are gone.

You get so caught up in the "firsts" that you forget to enjoy the "lasts"...She describes here her memories of the last nursing with Sean which I don't even remember at all with Jack...along with rice cereal, baby food, and the bottles even...

It makes me wonder what other "lasts" I don't remember because I was caught up in the "first" that was coming next. I know one day there will be a "last day in the crib" and a "last day with diapers" and with those come some big firsts. But I'm going to try harder to remember the "last" because it always comes before the "first".

I'm so glad others feel that same exact way. We are blessed to know you and we love seeing Jack grow. I can't wait to see Jack experience all the life has. You are an awesome mother and Jack is truly lucky.
